Viraj Solanki

Research Analyst, South Asia Programme

Main responsibilities: Carrying out policy-relevant research assignments; coordinating speaker and workshop engagements in London, as well as writing accounts of them; supporting the Programme in implementing ongoing projects.

Background: Prior to joining the IISS, Viraj was a Programme Manager at the King's College London (KCL)–Chevening Parliamentary Leadership Programme and the KCL–Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) initiative to train members of its India Cadre. During 2014–15, Viraj was a Research Associate at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, where he researched and coordinated activities for an FCO project on countering violent extremism.

Viraj's research focus has been on understanding the prospects for Afghanistan post-2016 and the actions of militant groups operating in South Asia. He holds an MA in Terrorism, Security and Society from KCL and a BSc in Economics from the University of Leicester, UK.
