Managing Director, IISS-Asia

Main Responsibilities: Clara is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the IISS-Asia office. She also supports the Executive Director’s fundraising efforts for IISS-Asia research programmes and wider IISS activities, and plays an important role in developing the Institute’s cohort of corporate and individual members in Southeast Asia and wider Asia-Pacific region. In addition, she is a member of the team based in various IISS offices that organises the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, a major annual conference in Singapore for Asia-Pacific defence ministers, military commanders and top-ranking defence officials. 

Background: Clara joined IISS-Asia on 8 February 2011. Clara brings with her a wealth of experience from both the private and non-profit sectors, her previous appointments including General Manager at World Scientific Publishing, Chief Executive Officer of the National University of Singapore Society, and Regional Customer Relationship Director-Asia with Reader’s Digest Asia Ltd. She graduated with a BA Hons in Economics and Accounting from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, and with an MSc in Management Studies from Durham University Business School. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
