Donald Trump’s talk of military action against North Korea has prompted Pyongyang to threaten the US territory of Guam. In an interview with BBC Newsnight, Mark Fitzpatrick, Executive Director IISS-Americas, says:
- the United States is not in a threatening posture, but the President’s “fire and fury” rhetoric may convince North Korea otherwise
- North Korea would have “no trouble” striking targets in South Korea and Japan with nuclear missiles
- new reports suggest North Korea may have 60 nuclear weapons – three times as many as previously thought.
