This discussion will examine the current build-up of tensions with Iran and the status of the now two-year-old nuclear accord.

This discussion will feature Suzanne DiMaggio, Director of The U.S.-Iran Initiative at New America, and Jay Solomon, author of The Iran Wars: Spy Games, Bank Battles, and the Secret Deals That Reshaped the Middle East (2016) and former chief foreign affairs correspondent of the Wall Street Journal.

The event will take place on Thursday 14 September, at The Princeton Club of New York. There will be a reception beginning at 6pm and the programme will run from 6–7.30pm.

Suzanne DiMaggio is the Director of The U.S.-Iran Initiative and a senior fellow at New America, a New York-based think tank and civic enterprise. She leads a long-running dialogue that she established in 2002, which brings together influential and knowledgeable Americans and Iranians to explore possible grounds for constructive engagement and develop mutually acceptable strategies for addressing a range of issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security, and US–Iran relations.

Jay Solomon is the author of The Iran Wars: Spy Games, Bank Battles, and the Secret Deals That Reshaped the Middle East (2016). He is the former chief foreign affairs correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and is now a freelance journalist. He led the coverage of the nuclear negotiations for the journal from 2012 through 2015.

Mark Fitzpatrick is the Executive Director of the IISS–Americas, as well as head of the IISS Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Policy Programme. He joined IISS in 2005, after 26 years at the State Department, and moved back to Washington in December 2015.
