More than 5,400 Syrians have been killed in the 10-month-old uprising against the government of President Bashar-al Assad, according to UN estimates. The Free Syrian Army claims some 30,000 defectors, but the regimes forces are ten times as large and the opposition is divided. A panel of IISS experts discussed the Syrian crisis.
