President Asif Ali Zardari adresses the IISS on “Pakistan: Strategic Challenges & Opportunities”

President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the extremists and militants were created decades ago by a deliberate policy to employ religious fanaticism for the achievement of certain strategic objectives. The President made this comment in his wide ranging address and discourse with British intelligentsia gathered at London’s International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) - a prestigious and one of the high profile Think Tanks, a day after he arrived in the British capital from Dubai.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Spokesman to the President Farhatullah Babar, Secretary General to the President Salman Farooqi, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Sanam Bhutto, Pakistan High Commissioner to UK Wajid Shamsul Hassan, writers, intellectuals and diplomats also attended.

Under pressure from the US, Pakistan today finally registered two FIRs against the alleged mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack - Hafiz Saeed and promised action against Saeed.

"We'll take action against Hafiz Saeed," Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari said in response to a question from TIMES NOW's Sr Editor Srinjoy Choudhury on the FIRs against Saeed.

Pakistani police have also said that they would definitely arrest Saeed, though not in connection with the Mumbai carnage. The JuD chief has been booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act for allegedly making anti-state speeches.

Reacting to the development, External Affairs Minister has said that India will not be satisfied until the FIR is not linked to 26/11.

For now, Saeed continues to be a free man as the police say they can't arrest him till they get a go-ahead from senior authorities.

Islamabad has continued to live in denial, but after US' pressure, Islamabad has had to eat its own words and has finally had to lodge an FIR against Saeed. Barely two months ago in an interview to Pakistan's GEO TV, Interior Minister Rehman Malik maintained India never gave any concrete evidence against Hafiz Saeed.

The Faisalabad Police have now charged Saeed with making anti-State speeches and urging Jamaat-ud-Dawa activists to wage 'Jehad'.

Saeed has also been charged for heading a charity collection drive during the Ramazan. The Jamaat-ud-Dawa, which is the Lashkar-s front organisation is a banned outfit. It cannot collect charity.

Police say Saeed held two meetings in Faisalabad on the 27th and 28th of August last year. Saeed is also understood to have attended Iftar dinners. Despite a ban on the operations of the JuD, Saeed held a meeting with activists urging them to wage Jehad.

TIMES NOW have learnt that at the August 27 Iftar dinners, Saeed preached the importance of Jehad to LeT activists. Saeed incited followers to wage war on infidels and India.

On August 28, Saeed met his cadre on Jaranwala road. Saeed met LeT activist and a Jehadi - Abu Jandal. Saeed preached Jehad as Jandal held parallel meetings. Saeed once again espoused the anti-India cause.
