Special 2009 Manama Dialogue Debate, Tonight on Al Arabiya

The International Institute for Strategic Studies is pleased to announce that Al Arabiya will be airing a special 1 hour debate ‘Perspectives from the Manama Dialogue.’ This will show at 2000hrs GMT on Al Arabiya and Bahrain TV. This will also be available at the same time at www.alarabiya.net. We invite you to turn on your television or watch online with us!

‘Perspectives from the Manama Dialogue’ will feature stimulating conversations on a variety of controversial security issues, including the Houthis in Yemen, Iran’s nuclear ambitions and progress in Iraq. Panelists include: Sh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bahrain; Ali Muhammad Al Anisi, Chairman of the National Security Agency and Head of the Presidential Office of Yemen; Jeffrey Feltman, Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs at the US Department of State; and Dr Mamoun Fandy, IISS Senior Fellow for Gulf Security and Corresponding Director of the IISS-Middle East.  The debate is moderated by Taher Barakeh, Al Arabiya.

The Manama Dialogue is the primary security forum in the Gulf and facilitates the engagement of the national security and foreign policy establishments of the region with critical external powers.  From 11 to 13 December 2009, the 6th meeting drew together the highest concentration to date of policy-makers involved in regional security, and delegations once again comprised a senior blend of prime ministers, defence ministers, foreign ministers, national security advisors, and military and intelligence chiefs. Lastly, on- and off-the-record events designed to foster the advancement of foreign policy continued to characterise The Manama Dialogue.
