Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama met the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Hajii Abdul Razak, during his participation at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia also holds the portfolio of the Minister of Defense. Minister Bogollagama met the Deputy Prime Minister on the sideline of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

Singapore, 04 June, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama met the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Hajii Abdul Razak, during his participation at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. The Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia also holds the portfolio of the Minister of Defense. Minister Bogollagama met the Deputy Prime Minister on the sideline of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.
The Foreign Minister elaborated the success of the elections of the Eastern Province and the manner in which, once, a violent group, assimilated to the political mainstream and the leader of the political party was appointed as the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province. This course of action could be described as a paradigm change in the countries polity. The Foreign Minister also discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister the similarity of ethnic profile of the two countries.
On a different note, Minister Bogollagama expounded the suicide attacks committed by the LTTE on civilians as well as other heinous crimes they commit. Further, the Foreign Minister added that the LTTE has killed a number of political leaders of Tamil ethnicity. The Foreign Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister discussed other measures to counter terrorism in the region and both of them agreed that countering terrorism would be a key priority for the advancement as well as peace and stability of the region.
Minister Bogollagama stated that Malaysia has become the largest foreign investor in Sri Lanka.
The Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Palitha T.B Kohona; High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, Mr. Shehan Ratnavale; Chief of Defense Staff, Air Chief Marshall Donald Perera; Director General of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed A. Jawad and other senior officials of the Ministry were present.
