The Shangri-La Dialogue has been recognized as a key event for defense and security diplomacy for the region. Since its inaugural meeting in 2002, the Dialogue has become a recognized part of the architecture of Asian defense diplomacy and is seen as the region' s premier and most inclusive security institution.
During his three-day stay in the island country, the minister will also hold bilateral meetings with his Singaporean counterpart. He will also meet Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, US Secretary of Defense Robert M Gates, Combodian Deputy Prime Minister General Tea Banh, Japanese Minister of Defense Fumio Kyuma, United Kingdom Minister of State for the Armed Forces Adam Ingram and French Secretary General of National Defense Francis Delon.
