Manama, May 8, (BNA) Bahraini Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa took part today in the GCC EU ministerial meeting in Riyadh.
Shaikh Khalid delivered a speech on behalf of the GCC in which he underlined the importance of dialogue on gulf security and the exchange of opinion to reinforce the region's stability.
He pointed out to the annual security dialogue conference which will be organized by the international institute for strategic studies in Manama in cooperation with the kingdom of Bahrain with the participation of a large number of political and security figures from the EU and the entire world, affirming the EU role in maintaining stability and peace in the gulf.
Shaikh Khalid touched on terrorism and the joint international fight to curb it for being a major threat to world peace and stability, stressing the need to block any attempts to finance terrorism and rather to uproot such phenomena that has no religion or identity.
The meeting asserted the need for both sides to develop bilateral cooperation in all fields and welcomed the progress made on the path of signing an FTA calling for speeding up negotiations for the importance of an agreement between the GCC and the EU.
It also welcomed the Arab peace initiative as a step on the path of a peaceful solution to the mideast conflict and expressed satisfaction over the quartet's efforts to encourage dialogue between the Palestinians and the Israelis. The two sides called for immediate halt of kidnapping and sectarian violence in iraq expressing profound concern over the continuous bloodshed and reiterating respect for Iraq’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
A communiqué was issued at the conclusion of the meeting containing the two sides' harmonious stances vis-vis a number of regional and global issues in addition to bilateral economic relations.
