Manama Dialogue 2007
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad offered a regional security pact and a 12-point cooperation plan, including free trade and joint investments in oil and gas earlier this week during a summit of Persian Gulf leaders.

"We see the presentation of these proposals as a positive development to enhance peace in the region and to ensure stability and security," Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa told participants at a regional security conference on Friday.

"While reiterating Iran's full sovereign right to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes, it is indispensable for Iran to actively and fully cooperate with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)," he said.

Bahrain welcomes an Iranian proposal for cooperation with Persian Gulf States and supports Tehran's right to peaceful nuclear energy.

Referring to the National Intelligence Estimate which has shaken US policy assumptions that Iran is determined to acquire nuclear weapons, Sheikh Khalid said, "Let's wait for developments."

The three-day summit in Manama Bahrain is sponsored by the International Institute for Strategic Studies and brings together about 200 defense ministers and senior officials from 23 countries to discuss major security issues in the region.
