MANAMA (A.A) -10.12.2006 -Turkish National Defence Minister Vecdi Gonul said that Iraqis should be realistic on the status of Kirkuk.
Taking the floor at the 3rd Regional Security Summit in Bahrein today, organized by International Institute for Strategic Studies, Gonul stressed that the status of Kirkuk would concern Turkey, as well as Iraq's other neighbours.
Gonul also called on the Iraqis to be realistic during the process of determining Kirkuk's status.
On the other hand, noting that Turkey should not interfere in Kirkuk issue, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Mahmud Zebari said, "Kirkuk is our city".
"You are talking about Kirkuk as if it were a Turkish city. Iraqis are the ones to decide on these problems," Zebari replied to Gonul.
Moreover, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt warned against the disunion of Iraq and said that the ones playing on such a disunion, were in a very dangerous attempt.
Agreeing with Bildt's words, Turkish Minister Gonul declared that Iraq's fragment would be the start of a disaster which could draw all the region in itself.
