Tehran, Dec 9, IRNA Iran-Mottaki-Security Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Saturday said that the strategic Persian Gulf region lacks an efficient security system and underlined that under the current regional conditions, the region requires a comprehensive security plan more than ever.
According to a report released by the Foreign Ministry Media Department, Mottaki made the remark while speaking at the third Annual Regional Security Summit for the Persian Gulf (December 8-10) in Manama, dubbed 'ManamaDialogue'.
Mottaki is visiting Manama in response to the invitation of his Bahraini counterpart to attend the ongoing three-day event and express his views on the security of Persian Gulf region.
The minister added that today, the great number of foreign troops in the Persian Gulf accounted for the regional tension rather than contributing to its security.
"We believe that security can be promoted in the Middle East through cooperation of regional states with those playing an effective role on the international scene.
"Obviously the regional states are highly responsible on free flow of oil and energy as well as the mutual effect of regional and international security on each other," he added.
Mottaki said that the regional security should not only be considered from military point of view but also as a hardware.
"Extensive cultural, historical and social commonalties among regional nations, wide range of economic and trade cooperation among them, policies based on confidence building and collaboration on regional and international developments can prepare the ground for formation of a comprehensive and efficient regional security system in the Persian Gulf," he noted.
Concerning the perspective of the Persian Gulf developments, he said that the current conditions in the region is rooted in the US wrong policies and its allies in Iraq.
"The continued aggressions of the Zionist regime against the oppressed people of Palestine and the US support for such measures account for the threat, insecurity and instability facing the Middle East region, , in particular the Persian Gulf.
"Iran has repeatedly declared that sustainable security can only be established in the Persian Gulf by collective cooperation of regional states, irrespective of the interference of foreign forces." Mottaki said that to develop a stable security system in the Persian Gulf region, the regional countries should come up with a common view on the issue, adding that meanwhile all of them should have an active role in its promotion.
