ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Bahrain plans to host a security conference that would discuss emerging threats to the Gulf.
The conference would be sponsored by the London-based Institute for International Strategic Studies as well as the kingdom. The conference, entitled 2006 IISS Manama Dialogue, would take place in Manama from Dec. 8-10.
"In order to recognize the support of the kingdom of Bahrain in establishing the IISS Gulf Dialogue in its first three-year cycle, the IISS has renamed the summit the Manama Dialogue," a statement by the organizers said on Nov. 26. "This regional security summit will further establish the importance of the Dialogue as the main vehicle for regional security diplomacy."
Organizers said the conference would contain significant input from those outside the region. They said the keynote address would be delivered by Bahraini Crown Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa on Dec. 8, followed by U.S. National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley.
