Nov 29, Sanaa – Minister of Interior Rashad Al-Alimi said in a statement yesterday that Yemen stands in the frontline for Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the war on terror.
Al-Alimi, who will be participating in the upcoming Gulf security meeting in Bahrain, added “Yemen’s role in fighting terrorism or pirating, or even in combating smuggling of drugs is essential more than any other time in the past.”
He also emphasized on the complementary role of Yemen for GCC countries noting that “security of the Gulf is an indivisible part of Yemen’s security and the contrary is also true.”
Al-Alimi revealed that Yemen will be asking to form a complete regional organization to bolster security in the region and achieve peace for citizens of the Gulf and Yemen.
The meeting will be held amidst a lot of talk about the controversial effect of the war on terror on the economies of the countries in the region.
This comes as international donor organizations have criticized Yemen on its excessive spending on security, while not allocating enough funds for developmental projects, which are considered by many donors as the more vital factor that would reduce poverty and hence help uproot the main source of frustration and terrorism.
