Foreign Secretary Jack Straw held talks Tuesday with director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei during his visit to London to deliver a speech on 'Reflections on Nuclear Challenges Today.'

The meeting, which was expected to include discussions on Iran's nuclear program, was low-key without any subsequent press conference.

The Foreign Office also said that it would be making no statement about the talks.

The IAEA chief's visit comes amid optimism about the restart of EU negotiations with Iran to reach long-term arrangements on its nuclear program following Britain, France and Germany offering to resume the deadlocked talks.

In an interview with the Independent newspaper on Monday, ElBaradei, warned against the dangerous game of brinkmanship in the west's nuclear dispute with Iran.

"Everybody would hurt," he said. "You would then open a Pandora's box. There would be efforts to isolate Iran; Iran would retaliate," he told the daily.

On Saturday, the IAEA director general is due to go to Oslo to receive this year's Nobel Peace Prize awarded to him and his UN watchdog agency.
