Iran Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Mohammad Reza Baqeri met Saturday with Iraqi Deputy President Ghazi Al-Yawar on the sidelines of a Persian Gulf security conference held in Bahrain.
Iranian embassy in Manama reported that the Iraqi official expressed his country's resolve to bolster ties with all of its neighbors, including Iran.
He said that Iraq's relations with Iran are cordial and stressed closer political, economic, and religious ties.
He added that Iraqi insecurity has adverse ramifications for the regional states, specially the neighbors.
"We wish peace and prosperity for all of our neighbors," he added.
Baqeri for his part referred to the recent visit of Iraqi president Jalal Talabani to Iran and his discussion with Iranian high-ranking officials.
He also highlighted the need for setting a time-table for withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq and Iran's readiness for closer ties with all regional states including Syria.
Baqeri wished the Iraqi official a successful parliamentary election in Iraq.
He also expressed hope that security in Iraq will be established with the cooperation from all political, ethnic and religious groups in the country.
Talabani arrived in Tehran last week heading a high-ranking political and economic delegation on an official visit.
He is the first Iraqi president to visit Iran in the past four decades.
While in Tehran, the Iraqi president held separate meetings with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, President Ahmadinejad, Judiciary Chief Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
President Talabani and his delegation departed Tehran for Baghdad on Wednesday evening.
