31 Mar 2008 - - Deutsche Presse-Agentur - NATO seeks to revamp Afghan mission
Christopher Langton, a retired colonel and a leading defence expert at the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, argues that when it comes to Afghanistan, NATO needs a more comprehensive strategy, more helicopters, better coordination on the ground, and one common goal. "Above all, it needs to transform tactical gains into strategic successes," Langton told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

The Minister is scheduled to address the prestigious International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) based in London on the subject of "Post Conflict Development: Efforts of a Democracy." 29 Mar 2008 - - Spiegel International - London Hopeful of Afghanistan Help
The British, says Bastian Giegerich of the influential International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), "have little motivation" to speak softly in their relations with Russia. The Labor administration of Prime Minister Gordon Brown likewise has little interest in escalating the conflict within the NATO alliance.
26 Mar 2008 - - Daily Mirror (Sri Lanka) - Fox here for political consensus
In June 2007 Dr. Fox met Minister Bogollagama at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore where the latter had encouraged him to return to Sri Lanka after an absence of more than a decade, to see at first hand the political developments that had taken place.
25 Mar 2008 - - New York Times - Make Sudan an Offer It Can’t Refuse
The first requirement of a cordon sanitaire, however, would be to cut all air links, which would require carrier-based air strikes to destroy the Sudanese air force’s 51 combat aircraft, 25 transports, and 44 helicopters (all figures from the International Institute for Strategic Studies); its fuel, munitions and maintenance facilities; and the few runways capable of supporting heavy transports and fighters. Were Chad to approve a small expeditionary force of America’s A-10 tactical-air-support planes, whic
23 Mar 2008 - - Aviation Week and Space Technology - NATO Faces Fundamental Issues at Summit
Dana Allin, senior fellow for transatlantic affairs at the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, says, "There's always been a problem about defense spending and about free-riders." However, Allin, who gave evidence to the committee, suggests that while the funding disparity will remain a cause of tension, the main alliance partners will likely continue to grudgingly accept this, since the alternative is even less palatable.
23 Mar 2008 - - Agence France Presse - Bush and Putin seek to part on good terms
For analyst Oksana Antonenko, the friendlier tone contrasted with a speech by Putin in Munich last year in which he denounced the United States for over-stepping its boundaries, notably in Iraq, and was evidence the two sides wanted to "put a brave face" on things. While Putin is preparing to hand over to president-elect Dmitry Medvedev next month, the Kremlin is also looking beyond Bush's flagging presidency, which ends in January, said Antonenko, of the London-based International Institute for Strategic

The India Global Forum is essential for comprehensive strategic assessments of India’s rise as a great power. It will discuss the key issues where economics, business, politics and security converge, including India’s search for energy security and
19 Mar 2008 - - Financial TImes - US pays a price in power
In an assessment last year, the International Institute for Strategic Studies concluded that "the restoration of American strategic authority" lost in the Iraq war and its aftermath would take "much longer than the mere installation of a new [US] president".
19 Mar 2008 - - Reuters - Egypt, Russia draft deal for nuclear power tender
The London-based International Institute of Strategic Studies said the first 1,000-megawatt reactor could be built at Dabaa on the Mediterranean in eight to 10 years if foreign investment was secured.
17 Mar 2008 - - United Press International - Analysis: Iraq, 5 years and gaffes later
According to the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, the U.S. invasion of Iraq has benefited al-Qaida, as large numbers of recruits joined up in the hope to fight the U.S. military.
