He met the Deputy Defence Minister of Myanmar on the margins of this elite Summit. President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa has extended increasing importance to address and assist the victims of the cyclone in Myanmar.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama met the Deputy Defence Minister of Myanmar, Maj. Gen. Aye Myint, during Minister Bogollagama’s visit to Singapore to participate at the Shangri La Dialogue from May 31 – June 1, 2008.
He met the Deputy Defence Minister of Myanmar on the margins of this elite Summit. President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa has extended increasing importance to address and assist the victims of the cyclone in Myanmar.
Minister Bogollagama expressed his condolences to the Deputy Minister of Defence of Myanmar for the devastation and loss of life caused by cyclone Nargis. He further stated that a delegation was sent to the Pledging Conference in Yangon, led by the Additional Secretary of the Foreign Ministry.
The Government of Sri Lanka has pledged USD one million and other humanitarian and technical assistance. The Deputy Minister of Myanmar stated that the victims of the cyclone needed shelter, roofing, medicines etc., particularly due to the forthcoming monsoon. Minister Bogollagama, after discussing the urgent needs of the people of Myanmar, stated that medicines, roofing material, technicians, doctors and nursing staff and garments and mosquito nets as well as tea would be dispatched on an urgent basis.
