London July 24 - Pakistan Thursday called for a coordinated and cooperative approach from all states to address problem of terrorism.

The call was made by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi while speaking on Imperatives for Peace and Prosperity in South Asia - Pakistans Perspective at International Institute for Strategic Studies here.

He said long term strategy be evolved to address factors which contribute to growth of terrorism. The primary among these are poverty, economic deprivation and denial of rights, which fuel extremist tendencies.

Qureshi urged international community to agree on a legal definition of terrorism to ensure that right of people to self-determination is not de-legitimized by associating it with this menace.

He spoke of Pakistans efforts to curb terrorism and said Islamabad is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism. This includes political, economic, military measures to find immediate and long term solution to problems.

Pakistan will not allow its territory to be used by terrorists and it will not be daunted by threats of terrorism. We will not allow foreign troops to operate inside our territory. Military action within our territory is the sole prerogative of Pakistani armed forces, he stated.

Foreign Minister said Pakistan was working with India through composite dialogue process to resolve all issues including Kashmir to ensure durable peace in the region.

On Afghanistan, he said Pakistan has deployed more than one hundred thousand troops on common border and has good intelligence sharing cooperation with Kabul. He said it hurts when there are accusatory statements from Afghanistan that Pakistan is endangering their peace and sovereignty.

As a nuclear weapon state, Pakistan adheres to doctrine of minimum credible deterrence, is opposed to any nuclear proliferation and arms race in region. We believe no restriction should be imposed on civilian nuclear cooperation under appropriate safeguards.
