Lloyd’s and the International Institute for Strategic Studies have released a report urging businesses in SE Asia that the terrorist dangers they face are complex, and specific.

The report, entitled Terrorism in Asia: What does it mean for business, states that traditional terrorism is being replaced by threats specific to a given area, such as professional crime syndicates with a political dimension.

Businesses need to take action, the report says, including taking advice from government and academic sources, picking locations carefully, encourage security to be seen as standard practice and engaging with local communities to better understand the political situation.

According to Lloyd’s chief executive, Richard Ward, the terrorist threats across the globe are clearly divergent rather than uniform and businesses need to be adept at garnering information to combat the threat posed.

He warned businesses not to focus exclusively on Islamist terrorism, as the mainstream media tend to.

Ward also urged businesses to consider the logistical aspect of a potential attack, and not disregard the necessity of a strong and resilient supply chain.
