NEW DELHI, April 19 (APP): Pak-India expert group on nuclear Confidence Building Measures have produced results.
Referring to any possible nuclear flare up between Pakistan and India, the Indian Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon speaking at an interactive session at the India Global Forum here on Saturday said both the countries have been working on nuclear confidence building measures since 1999.
The Secretary said soon after the 1998 tests, both countries realised to remain in touch with each other.
In 1999, both countries agreed on a series of nuclear confidence building measures and they have been carrying that out. The expert group set up on nuclear CBMs has produced results, he said.
Shivshankar Menon said Pakistan and India notify each other on ballistic missile tests and have a series of engagements.
Referring to Iran, he said it was not in India’s interest to have another nuclear weapons state in its neighbourhood but Iran had the right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy subject to its international obligations.
Referring to Indo-US nuclear cooperation deal, he said India hopes to bring the deal to fruition soon, media reports quoting him said.
