Dialogues Manager and Research Analyst

 

Main Responsibilities: Working with national defence and security establishments in the Middle and Far East coordinating their assistance and participation in various IISS activities, in particular for the IISS Gulf and Shangri-La Dialogue security summits, which he also manages. Researching and monitoring political developments from the Middle East focusing on counter-terrorism, counter-proliferation and regional security.

 

Background: Mark read Arabic and Persian at Pembroke College, Oxford. After graduating in 2000 he worked as a software developer in the financial industry. In 2002 he joined MEC, a political risk consultancy, as a Research Analyst and Project Coordinator. He then took a position at Reuters as a Middle East Research Editor. In 2004 Mark spent six months with the British Military in Iraq, working as an interpreter and translator, returning to the UK to join the IISS.
