Interns

A limited number of internships are offered from time to time to graduate students in international relations and strategic studies, which receive a small weekly stipend. Interns are assigned to a member of the Directing Staff, Senior Staff or a Research Fellow, which means that candidates require postgraduate experience in the associated field of study.

When considering candidate applications, the IISS is not able to offer assistance in finding accommodation, nor can it apply for work permits for these assignments.  The IISS also cannot guarantee a response to unsolicited applications in all cases.

London Office

The IISS Defence Analysis Department in London is interested in receiving applications, with a CV, from candidates interested in internships with the department. The role will require individuals to be available to work on projects relating to The Military Balance publication until the book is finalised in December 2008, with around 2.5 days per week in-house. Candidates should have an interest in military equipment and the organisation of armed forces, although we do welcome interested generalists who have a background in international relations. Knowledge of database systems and foreign languages would be an asset. Please email applications and relevant documentation to: HR@iiss.org.

Washington Office

The Institute is currently seeking graduate and undergraduate interns to support the work and management of its Washington DC office; details are listed on the IISS-US careers page.
