HE Elmar Mammadyarov has held several posts in Government including; First Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Director of the Division of State Protocol, MFA; First Secretary to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN, New York, 1992-1995; Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations, MFA, 1995-1998; Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United States, from 1998-2003; and Ambassador, Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Italy, from 2003-2004.
In April 2004 HE Elmar Mammadyarov was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
