17 May 2012 - Key Address - Time for a treaty: Why the arms industry must have global standards
There are currently no international standards controlling the global arms trade. Alan Duncan, in an address to the IISS on Thursday 17 May, argued that while the UK has a strong arms-control system, this is not the case in all countries. Without legally binding, internationally agreed standards, he maintains, an irresponsible arms trade will continue fuelling conflicts, human-rights abuses and corruption.

02 April 2012 - Key Address - Ukraine's European integration and its security policy
Kostyantyn Gryshchenko, Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed the IISS on 'Ukraine's European integration and its security policy' on Monday 02 April 2012. Membership of the EU remains a strategic priority for Ukraine, and the outline Association Agreement promises to create a new political and economic relationship. However, Ukraine's foreign policy is not focused solely on Europe, particularly in light of the fast-changing global geopolitical context.
28 March 2012 - Key Address - Integrating Bosnia into Europe
As part of the Western Balkans, Bosnia and Herzegovina is committed to becoming fully integrated into the European and Euro-Atlantic community. Membership of NATO and the European Union are two of its leading foreign-policy goals. The country's new foreign minister, Dr Zlatko Lagumdzija, talked about the reforms necessary to achieve this, and the challenges still facing Bosnia and Herzegovina's state-building 20 years after the outbreak of the Bosnian War.
23 March 2012 - Fullerton Lecture - Ban Ki-Moon
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon gave the inaugural IISS Fullerton Lecture 'Securing our Future: Singapore, the Region and Beyond' on 23 March 2012 at the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore. His speech focused on regional and global collaboration on security challenges, sustainable development and the importance of engaging young people. 'It may not be well understood or appreciated just yet but we are seeing an evolution in global governance,' he said
19 March 2012 - Key Address - The Changing Geopolitics of the Middle East and Israel's Security
The Arab Awakening has transformed Israel's strategic environment. At the same time, there is growing concern in Israel and elsewhere about the strategic implications of Irans nuclear programme. Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor shared Israel's perspective on this changing strategic landscape in an address to the IISS on 19 March.

Nana Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Ghana gave the 2012 Oppenheimer lecture on 'The future of democracy in Africa and the Arab Spring' on Wednesday 29 February 2012.
