On 6 May 2005, the IISS hosted a Special Round Table Discussion with Ms Kashmala Tariq, Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. Ms Tariq spoke on 'Empowering the Women of Pakistan: Challenges and Accomplishments'.

Ms Kashmala Tariq has been elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan on the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) seat. She is currently Chairperson for Women Rights in the Parliamentarian’s Commission for Human Rights and Member of several National Assembly Standing Committees, including Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee. Ms Tariq served as Secretary General of an Environmental NGO (SATH) in 1992-1995.
 
Ms Tariq completed her LL.B in the Punjab University Law College in 1996 and LL.M at the London School of Economics in 1998.
