On 8 July 2005, the IISS hosted a Special Round Table Discussion with Major General Shaukat Sultan, Press Secretary to President Pervez Musharraf, and Director General, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan. Major General Sultan gave a presentation on 'The Current Phase of the War on Terror'. The Round Table Discussion was chaired by Sir Hilary Synnott, IISS Senior Consulting Fellow.
Major General Sultan was appointed Press Secretary to President Pervez Musharraf in June 2004. He took up the position of Director General of ISPR in May 2003, and continues to hold this position. In his capacity as Director General of ISPR, Major General Sultan is the official spokesperson for the Pakistan Armed Forces.
