6 Oct 2004 - Lt. General Syed Shujaat Hussain (retd.) and Mr Javed Jabbar - Pakistan’s Security: from Genesis to New Challenges

On 6 October 2004 the IISS hosted a Special Panel Discussion with Lt. General Syed Shujaat Hussain (retd.), Rector of the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Rawalpindi, and Mr Javed Jabbar, Honorary Chairman, International Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IIPCR), Rawalpindi.

Lt. General Syed Shujaat Hussain (retd.) was appointed Rector, NUST - a new university in sciences and technology - in 1992. Earlier, he was the Chief of Corps of Engineers of the Pakistan Army (1983-1991) and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Water and Power (1979-1981).
 
Mr Javed Jabbar took over as Honorary Chairman, IIPCR on its establishment in NUST in May 2004. Earlier, He was Adviser on National Affairs to General Pervez Musharraf and Minister of Information and Media Development in his Cabinet (1999-2000). In 1996-97, he was Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources. Mr Jabbar is a visiting lecturer at the National Defence College, Islamabad, and the author of a number of books on political issues and international affairs.
