On 4 June 2005, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Defence, Mr Zahid Hamid, spoke in the Second Plenary Session of the IISS Shangri-La dialogue 2005. He addressed the audience about “UN Peacekeeping: the Pakistan Experience”.
Speaking in the context of ‘ Asian experiences of peacekeeping operations and humanitarian interventions’, Mr Hamid provided a detailed account of his country’s extensive involvement in peacekeeping operations (PKO). He used the occasion to unveil a number of specific proposals to improve international planning, coordination, logistics and training, and other initiatives to develop a rapid reaction PKO capacity.
