The Third IISS South Asia Security Conference on 'South Asia's Security after September 11' took place on 11-13 January 2002 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This meeting was the third in a series of conferences organised by the IISS to examine security issues in the subcontinent. Coinciding with a period of increased tension and possible conflict between India and Pakistan, the Dubai Conference provided an informal and off-the-record venue for Indian and Pakistani diplomats, officers, private experts and journalists to meet and discuss the implications of the war against global terrorism on South Asia security.
In addition to Indian and Pakistani participants, officials from the US, Japan, and the UK attended the conference, which was organised by Terence Taylor, Executive Director of the IISS-US, and Dr Gary Samore, IISS Senior Fellow for Non-proliferation. Helga Haack from the Institute provided administrative support.
