5 Feb 04 - Eurasia Strategy Seminar - Dr Alisher Faizullaev - Security and Regional Cooperation in Central Asia

On 5 February 2004 Dr Alisher Faizullaev, Director of the newly established independent Centre for Political Studies in Uzbekistan, gave a talk on ‘Security and Regional Co-operation in Central Asia’.
 
Dr. Faizullaev has a distinguished academic and diplomatic career.  He served as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in London from 1999 to 2003, First Deputy Foreign Minister, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belgium, and as an Adviser to the President of Uzbekistan. At present Dr. Faizullaev is deputy Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent. Dr Faizullaev assessed the importance of co-operation between the Central Asian states for example on the management of water resources, the role of external actors such as the presence of US forces and China’s intentions, and prospects for the future of the region
