19 Feb 04 - Eurasia Strategy Seminar - Dr Fiona Hill - Power Succession Challanges in Eurasia

On 19 February 2004 Dr Fiona Hill, Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution, gave a talk on "Power Succession Challenges in Eurasia."

Dr Fiona Hill is one of the leading experts on Russia, The South Caucasus and Central Asia. Currently she is a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Studies Program at The Brookings Institution in Washington DC. Previously Dr Hill worked as Associate Director of the Harvard Strengthening Democratic Institutions Project, as well as Adviser to the President and Director of Strategic Planning at the Eurasia Foundation. Dr Hill has recently published a book entitled "Potemkin Russia," (with Clifford Gaddy) which analyses the geographic, economic, and political constraints on Russia's long-term development.

In this seminar Dr Hill spoke on the implications of recent power transfers in Georgia and Azerbaijan, and of the prospect of political change in other Former Soviet states.
