24 Nov 03 - Visit by Leonid Kravchuk, former President of the Ukraine

On 24 November 2003 the International Institute for Strategic Studies and the Centre for Global Studies hosted a visit by Leonid Kravchuk, the former president of Ukraine.

Leonid Kravchuk was the first post-Soviet President of Ukraine (December 1991) and is currently deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian parliament). He is the head of the SDPU faction in the Verkhovna Rada and is a member of the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on Foreign Relations. He is the author of two recent books and has published over 500 articles on Ukraine’s internal and foreign policy in both Ukrainian and international magazines.

The seminar was chaired by Lord Skidelsky. It focused on assessing the main political domestic challenges in the run up to the next Presidential elections which are scheduled for October 2004 and how these factors influence the key priorities of Ukraine’s foreign and security policy.
