The round-table discussion was organised during a visit by Programme Director Oksana Antonenko and IISS Assistant Director Terence Taylor to Vladivostok and Khabarovsk at the invitation of the Russian government's Council for the Retraining and Resettlement of Military Personnel. The group's hosts in Vladivostok were the Primorsky Krai administration, the Commander of the Russian Pacific Fleet, Admiral Mikhail Zakharenko, and the Rector of the Far Eastern State University, Professor Vladimir Kurilov. Prof. Kurilov chaired the round-table meeting with a group of experts from the Far Eastern State University. It addressed Far Eastern regional views on Sino-Russian relations, including border issues, migration and economic cooperation. The Korean peninsula was discussed with reference to non-proliferation policies and economic-assistance programmes for North Korea. |
