Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue

 

Between 2004-2006, the IISS facilitated Track Two discussions between Georgian and South Ossetian representatives, including senior officials and experts. These meetings generated many practical ideas including the adoption of the restitution law, initiatives on police cooperation and economic rehabilitation.

 

The conferences listed below are all part of the Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue.

 

  • 07 December 2010 - Discussion Meeting - Getting Down to Serious Business: US-Russian Arms Control Beyond START Whether or not New START is ratified, the US and Russia are approaching a point where they will have to face an entirely new set of issues that have never been addressed in more than 40 years of arms control negotiations. New START was meant to serve as a bridge to this new agenda but, making the transition is inevitable anyway.   • 07 December 2010 - Discussion Meeting - Life on the Boundary Line: A Community-Based Approach to Security More than two years after the August 2008 war in the South Caucasus, the consequences of the violence, and the subsequent failures to resolve the conflict, still affect communities living along the administrative boundary line (ABL) between Tbilisi-controlled Georgia and South Ossetia. In this talk, the manager of the Caucasus Programme at Saferworld, David Wood, will argue that a community-based approach to security can have a transformative effect and examines the relevance to the Caucasus.
  • 4th Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue The Fourth meeting of the IISS-facilitated Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue took place on 19-20 May 2006 in Tbilisi. The meeting continued discussions of the restitution and compensation process for the victims of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict. More than 80 participants attended the meeting which included senior Government representatives, members of the Georgian parliament, Georgian NGOs, and representatives of refugee organisations from North Ossetia and South Ossetia.
  • 3rd Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue The third expert meeting of the Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue, conducted by the IISS, took place on 30-31 March 2006 in Vladikavkaz, in the Russian Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.The objective of this meeting was to exchange views on the ways to resolve the problems of the refugees who fled Georgia in the 1990s, most of whom reside on the territory of the Russian Federation, primarily in North Ossetia.
  • 3rd Georgian Ossetian Dialogue-Russian 30-31 марта 2006 года во Владикавказе (Северная Осетия, Россия) прошла экспертная встреча в рамках проекта Грузино-Осетинского Диалога, проводимого под эгидой лондонского Международного Института Стратегических Исследований (IISS). Цель встречи обменяться мнениями о путях и формах решения проблем беженцев, покинувших территорию Грузии в 1990-е годы, большинство из которых проживают на территории России, главным образом в Северной Осетии.
  • 2nd Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue, June 2005 Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue 2005The second Georgian-South Ossetian Dialogue took place in Brussels on 7-12 June 2005 under the auspices of the IISS. The objectives of the meeting were to continue discussions and to explore new approaches towards the resolution of the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict. The unofficial format of the meeting stipulated that all participants attended in their personal capacity, that no decisions were taken at the meeting and that no obligations were implied by the discussions which took place.
  • 2nd Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue (Russian) С 7 по 11 июня 2005 года в Брюселе прошла Вторая экспертная встреча грузиноосетинского диалога, проводимого под эгидой лондонского Международного Института Стратегических Исследований (IISS). Цель встреч продолжить обмен мнениями и выработку подходов по различным проблемам урегулирования грузиноосетинского конфликта. Все участники были представлены в личном качестве и какиелибо решения и обязательства на данной нефициальной встрече не принимались.
  • 1st Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue The first expert meeting of the Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue project under the auspices of the London-based International Institute of Strategic Studies took place in Brdo (near the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana) between 15 and 18 March 2005. The meeting was attended by Georgian and South Ossetian parliamentarians, government officials, and NGO representatives, as well as a representative from North Ossetia - all acting in an informal capacity.
  • 1st Georgian-Ossetian Dialogue (Russian) С 15 по 18 марта 2005 года в Брдо, недалеко от столицы Словении города Любляна, прошла первая экспертная встреча в рамках проекта Грузино-Осетинского Диалога, проводимого под эгидой лондонского Международного Института Стратегических Исследований (IISS). Во встрече приняли участие парламентарии, официальные лица и представители неправительственных организаций грузинской и юго-осетинской сторон и представитель Северной Осетии. Все участники были представлены в личном качестве.
