3 October 06 - 'Nuclear Black Markets Workshop'

On 3 October, the Non-Proliferation programme convened a workshop on nuclear black markets, held at the offices of IISS–US in Washington DC.

The workshop brought together several non-proliferation experts from government, research institutes and the media in order to discuss the clandestine private sector trade in nuclear know-how, materials and technology. The workshop provided an opportunity to preview some of the key issues to be analysed in the next IISS Strategic Dossier on Nuclear Black Markets: Pakistan, AQ Khan, Nuclear Smuggling and the Rise of Nuclear Proliferation Networks. The dossier will be launched in the first half of 2007 and will provide the first comprehensive assessment of the phenomenon.
