6 Dec 05 - Alastair Buchan Memorial Lecture

On 6 December 2005, Dr Mohamed ElBaradei, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), presented the Alastair Buchan Memorial Lecture to a standing-room-only audience, four days before he was honoured in Oslo with the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize, awarded jointly to Dr ElBaradei and the IAEA for their work in preventing nuclear energy from being used for military purposes.
In his presentation, entitled ‘Reflections on Nuclear Challenges Today’, Dr ElBaradei  promoted a set of six practical steps to address the challenges posed by nuclear proliferation, the emergence of nuclear black markets and the sluggish pace of nuclear disarmament.
