On 23-25 June 2005, the IISS, along with the Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and the Nixon Center, organised its fourth meeting in Geneva for representatives of the US and Iran to discuss security issues in the Persian Gulf. Of particular interest, the chief Iranian nuclear negotiator, Ambassador Cyrus Nasseri, attended the meeting and gave a pessimistic diagnosis for prospects for the European-Iranian nuclear talks, following the election of President Ahmadinejad in Iran.
