On 16-18 November 2004, the IISS, along with the Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and the Nixon Center, hosted a meeting in Geneva for representatives of the US, European countries, and Iran to discuss security issues in the Persian Gulf, with a focus on diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue. - Security Issues on Korean Peninsula
On 18-19 May 2004, the IISS hosted a major international meeting in London to discuss security issues on the Korean Peninsula, including efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue. Participants included a senior delegation from North Korea, lead by Vice Foreign Minister King SokUng, and officials and experts from the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, China, and Australia.
