Resolving the Iranian Nuclear Issue
On 4-6 December 2003, the IISS and the Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) hosted a meeting in Geneva for experts and representatives of the US, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Iran to discuss security issues in the Persian Gulf, with a focus on diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue. Strengthening Non-Proliferation Efforts
On 21-22 November 2003, Gary Samore, IISS Director of Studies and Senior Fellow for Non-proliferation, co-hosted a workshop with Henry Sokolski, Director of the Washington D.C.-based Non Proliferation Policy Education Center, to discuss proposals for strengthening non-proliferation efforts, such as the Proliferation Security Initiative. Thinking About the Unthinkable
On 26-27 June 2003, the IISS together with the Mountbatten Centre for International Studies (MCIS), University of Southampton, hosted a workshop entitled “Thinking About the Unthinkable: The Impact of the Use of WMD upon their International Non-Proliferation Regimes – A US-European Dialogue”.
