On 16 July 2004 the IISS received a 20-strong delegation of parliamentarians from the opposition Democratic Party of Japan. The delegation was led by Ichiro Ozawa, who has been influencial in stimulating party-political realignments in Japan for many years. IISS Director Dr John Chipman and Senior Fellow for East Asia Security Adam Ward briefed the delegation on the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, where Japan has consistently been represented at a very high level. Adam Ward also briefed the delegation on developments regarding North Korea. There was further discussion about changes to Japan's foreign and defence policy posture.
