On 3 August 2004, the IISS hosted a six-member delegation from the Academy of Military Science (AMS) of the People’s Liberation Army. The delegation was led by the Vice-President of the Academy, Lt.-General Ge Dongsheng. The AMS acts as a national defence university, conducting research into armed forces development and military operations; develops military doctrine and strategic theory for the PLA; and performs consultative/analytical functions for the Central Military Commission, China's high command.
