IISS work on African security centres on the institute's Armed Conflict Database and its Oppenheimer Lecture series. The former monitors a dozen ongoing conflicts in sub-Saharan Africa, with weekly updates. The latter invites eminent Africans - such as Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Nobel Peace Prize winner Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia - to talk at IISS. Other IISS publications and events also often discuss African security.
It's not easy governing 'the world's most failed state', but Somali Prime Minister Dr Abdiweli Mohamed Ali believes the authorities can build on recent successes.
