The IISS Individual Membership is drawn from around the world and typically from fields including industry, banking, consultancy, academia, journalism and government service.
Applicants are admitted as Members or as Associates for those who are in military or government service.
Individual Members are recruited by being proposed by individual Members or Associates of two or more years standing.

Individual Membership Categories:
Full Individual Membership
Members receive Survival every quarter, approximately eight Adelphi Papers, all 10 Strategic Comments, and The Military Balance and Strategic Survey.
In addition, Individual Members receive:

the right to use the Institute’s facilities in London;

eligibility to apply for a place at the Global Strategic Review (delegate fees not included);

an invitation to the annual Alastair Buchan Lecture;

eligibility to invitation-only Discussion Meetings held at Arundel House at which guest speakers introduce a discussion on an issue of current concern;

online access to the Members' area.
Full Membership costs £210 per annum.
Junior Membership
Junior Membership is available to all individuals elected to the Membership who are under the age of 35 and employed in the non-profit, government sectors, academia or serving in the armed forces. It includes full Individual Membership benefits.
Junior Membership costs £80 per annum.
Senior Membership
Senior Membership is available to those who are over the age of 65 and are of 10 years standing as Members or Associates. Senior Members are entitled to Survival and Strategic Survey.
