Major General Mart de Kruif, Former Commander Regional Command (South) ISAF,  speaks on “Strategic patience, the way to success in Afghanistan”


On Tuesday 01 December Major General Mart de Kruif, Former Commander Regional Command (South) ISAF, will speak on “Strategic patience, the way to success in Afghanistan” from 12.30-1.30pm at The Bonnington Rooms, on Bloomsbury Square.

 

Mart de Kruif was Commander RC South (rotating between UK, Canada and Netherlands) from 1 October 2008 until 1 November 2009 and has since been succeeded by Major General Nick Carter.

 

Major General de Kruif will give a short orientation on Regional Command (South), followed by an assessment on the current situation and Initial Assessment COMISAF, discussion on all the Lines of Operation and his expectations on the developments within the next 12 months.

 

 

 

 

Major General De Kruif began his military career in 1977 at the Royal Military Academy in Breda. After completing his training as an infantry officer he was commissioned in 1981.

 

In 2002, by then a Colonel, he spent a year at the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania (USA) graduating as Master of Strategic Studies, after which he held two different positions in the Netherlands Army Staff and the Defence Staff in The Hague from 2003 to 2006. In 2006, he was assigned to the staff of the Army Command in Apeldoorn in the capacity of Deputy Director of Operations.

 

In early 2007 he assumed command of 43 Mechanised Brigade in Havelte for which he was promoted to Brigadier General. Until his appointment as Commander Regional Command South, he was responsible for the training, formation and operational readiness of the brigade for ISAF operations in Uruzgan.

 

On March 27, 2008 Mart de Kruif was promoted to the rank of Major General.

 

The meeting with be chaired by Nigel Inkster, Director of Transnational Threats and Risk, IISS. It will take place in the Virginia Wolf Conference Room at The Bonnington Rooms.
