  • 17 December 2010 - IISS-US - Discussion Meeting - Energy security in Europe and Central Asia Richard Morningstar, Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, US Department of StateRichard Morningstar, the Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy at the US Department of State, discussed energy security in Europe and Central Asia, and the interests of the United States in the region on Friday, December 17. The discussion touched on politics and economics, and he looked at both energy extraction and distribution.
  • 16 December 2010 - IISS-US Ambassadors' Forum - Arturo Sarukhan, Ambassador of Mexico Arturo Sarukhan, Ambassador of Mexico As part of its Ambassadors Forum Series, the IISS-US hosted Arturo Sarukhan, Ambassador of Mexico to the United States, as part of its Ambassadors Forum Series on Thursday, 16 December 2010. Ambassador Sarukhan discussed the challenge of transnational organized crime, focusing on crime syndicates, trafficking and the rule of law in Mexico.
  • 07 December 2010 - Discussion Meeting - Life on the Boundary Line: A Community-Based Approach to Security More than two years after the August 2008 war in the South Caucasus, the consequences of the violence, and the subsequent failures to resolve the conflict, still affect communities living along the administrative boundary line (ABL) between Tbilisi-controlled Georgia and South Ossetia. In this talk, the manager of the Caucasus Programme at Saferworld, David Wood, will argue that a community-based approach to security can have a transformative effect and examines the relevance to the Caucasus.
