On Friday 16 October 2009 Dr. Arun Shourie, MP, Prominent Indian journalist, author and politician, will speak on 'India and China: Competition rather than Cooperation?' from 11am-12pm.
Dr. Arun Shourie is a prominent Indian journalist, author and politician, and one of India’s best-known commentators on current and political affairs.
He was elected to the Upper House of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) in July 1998 as a Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 2003-04, he served as India’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. Earlier, he had served as the Minister of State for Disinvestment.
A former Editor of the Indian Express, he has written several influential books on the judicial system, religious activism, politics and international affairs. His most recent book, “Are we Deceiving Ourselves Again? Lessons the Chinese taught Pandit Nehru but which we refuse to Learn” was published in 2008. He writes regularly in the Indian media.
Mr. Arun Shourie has received a number of awards, including the Padma Bhushan, the Magsaysay Award, and the Dadabhai Naoroji Award. He was educated at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and Syracuse University, New York, from where he received his doctorate in Economics.
