On Wednesday, 24th June 2009, Dr Maleeha Lodhi,Former Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK & Ambassador to the US, spoke on “The Security Environment in Pakistan and the Impact of U.S. ‘Af-Pak’ policy” from 12-1pm.
Dr. Maleeha Lodhi is a distinguished diplomat, journalist and academic.
Following her PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 1980, where she also taught till 1985, she became Editor of the widely-circulated Muslim newspaper in Pakistan. She was Editor of another major newspaper, The News, in 1990-1993 and 1997-1999. She served as a member of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Affairs from 2001 to 2005.
Dr. Maleeha Lodhi has twice served as Pakistan's Ambassador to the US in 1994-97 and 1999-2002, and as High Commissioner to the UK in 2003-2008. She was a Fall 2008 Resident Fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
In March 2003, she was conferred Pakistan's highest civil award, the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, for setting the "highest standards of professional excellence" in diplomacy.
