On Tuesday 7 April 2009, Dr Jennifer Coolidge, Executive Director, CMX Caspian and Gulf Consultants, will speak on ‘Turkmenistan and EU Energy Security’ from 12:30-20pm.
The recent gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine which resulted in suspension of gas supply to Europe has one again rocked confidence in Russia's reliability as Europe's key energy supplier. The EU has responded by placing a greater priority on a southern gas corridor from the Caspian region as a way to diversify its dependency on Russia. Turkmenistan, with its large gas reserves - is a key player for making a southern gas corridor project more viable.
Dr Jennifer Coolidge, who is one is widely acknowledged as the foremost consultant and advisor on Turkmenistan, will speak on the recent developments and their impact on Europe's energy security. As Director of CMX Caspian and Gulf Consultants Limited, Dr Coolidge advises international oil companies and multinationals on strategy, political risk and market entry in Turkmenistan. In 2006-2007, Dr Coolidge was Senior Expert on Caspian Energy at the Woodrow Wilson Center, Washington DC. In 2005-2006, Dr Coolidge carried out seven months of research on the hydrocarbon sector of Turkmenistan funded by the US Department of State Title VIII scholars program. Concurrent with this fieldwork, she was International Policy Fellow in the Centre for International Studies, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford, and Rapporteur for the UK Taskforce on Energy Security and Foreign Policy chaired by Lord Christopher Patten.
The seminar will be chaired by Oksana Antonenko, Senior Fellow and Programme Director of Russia and Eurasia programme and will be held on the fourth floor of Arundel House, 13-15 Arundel Street, Temple Place, London WC2R 3D.
